We’re Robert and Elise. We’re hardworking, dedicated, and strongly believe in being useful to our families and community. We met and became friends in 1996 when we were 16.
We lost touch while Robert was in Marine Corps boot camp and Elise was in college, but reunited as Best Man and Maid of Honor when Elise’s best friend married Robert’s brother in 2001. We got married in October of 2004, and soon after we eagerly set out to start a family. We moved into our first home on our first anniversary and our first daughter was born less than two months later.
We’ve always loved the idea of a big family and three years later we discovered we were having twins! The challenges and joys of raising two infants at the same time (along with their big sister) showed us the tremendous joy of each child being a unique individual, and that love is an ever expanding force – there is no limit to it. We were thrilled to open our hearts, home, and family to a baby boy in 2013 through adoption, and we believe that it is vital both for him and our family as a whole to complete it by adopting for a second time.
A little bit more about us and our interests: After eleven years of marriage, we laugh about how similar our goals and interests are, yet how completely opposite we are in how we pursue them. For example – we both love creating interesting and useful spaces (gardens, rooms, bookshelves – you name it). Elise delves deep into the planning and visualization of these spaces, meanwhile Robert is in the next room bashing out the wall getting ready for the project! Another example is fitness. We both enjoy exercise and pushing our bodies to their limits, but while Robert enjoys running long distance in his minimalist shoes and participating in extreme obstacle challenges outside and by himself, Elise heads out most mornings to hit the gym for either weight training or intervals – inside with friends. We use our fitness as a tool to participate more fully in our daily lives. Robert runs to stay limber for his manual job, and Elise gets her “grownup” time out of the way so she can commit her days to being fully present with the kids. We are blessed that she can be at home full time and Robert works hard to make it possible.
We can only imagine how much soul searching and anguish you must be going through as you make these difficult decisions for yourself and your child. We hope for you clarity and peace. You are a strong and courageous woman and we honor your process. Our hearts and prayers are with you on your journey.
